Rachel Galay

Cellist Racheli Galay has performed across four continents as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, winning rave reviews from both the press and the audience. She appeared as soloist with orchestras such as The Zagreb Philharmonic, The Szolnok Symphony, The Rosario Chamber Orchestra and The Soloists of Israel, and in prestigious venues such as the European Parliament, Lisinsky Hall and the Rudolfinum in Prague. She performed at the Luoghi di Confine Festival, the Tzfat Klezmer Festival and at Musica festival. Ms. Galay has premiered and recorded many contemporary works, some of them dedicated to her.

Ms. Galay won a prize in the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Scholarship Competition in 2001 and was admitted to the Civic Orchestra of Chicago for the 2002-2003 season. Upcoming engagements of her duo with Junichi Steven Sato include a recital at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Cultural Center of Chicago, which will be broadcast live on classical radio and cable television stations, a recital at Musica Viva! Concert Series at Joliet College, Illinois and a recital at Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church. As Duo Galay with Daniel Galay, joined by clarinetist Gregory Barrett, she will perform at Indiana University and at Northern Illinois University during September 2002.

Ms. Galay holds a M.M. in Cello Performance with distinction from Indiana University and a B.A. in Musicology, magna cum laude, from The University of Tel-Aviv. Her principal teachers include Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Janos Starker, Emanuel Gruber and Jean Deplace. Ms. Galay was member of the Israeli Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and toured with them in Germany and France. She also played with Chachmei Tzfat Klezmer ensemble and toured with them in Italy.
